How We Do it
Family Selection If your family, or a family you know, is in need of decent, affordable housing, please check our Apply for a Home page where you will find information on the availability, size, costs, and sweat equity requirements for Habitat houses in our area, as well as information on the application process.
Habitat and its Affiliates Habitat is a grass-roots movement. Concerned citizens from all walks of life come together as volunteers to form a Habitat affiliate in their community. Fundraising, house construction, family selection and other key decisions are carried out by the local affiliates. HFHI headquarters, located in Americus, Ga., provides information, training, support and other services to Habitat affiliates worldwide.

BCHFH FACTS Yale Residential Security Products will provide all of the interior and exterior locks for all Habitat homes built in the U.S. and Canada for the next five years. Dow Chemical Corporation provides all of the Dow foam insulation for every Habitat Home in North America. Larson Door Company provides the storm doors for every Habitat Home. Square D Electric donates all of the circuit breakers and electrical panels for our homes. BCHFH was founded in 1992 by a group led by Laura Asiala and Reverend Lloyd Umbarger. The average monthly cost to rent a three bedroom home in Bay County is $677.00. The monthly payment for a new Bay County Habitat for Humanity home is just under $400.00 which includes taxes and insurance. Our homes are Five Star Plus energy rated to ensure the cost of utilities will be affordable for the new homeowners. When a Habitat homeowner pays their monthly house payment, that money goes directly into a fund to build future homes. Families must perform 500 hours of "sweat equity" before they can move into their new home. |
